Perth Scout Group celebrates with former members

Scout Troup & Leaders in 1984

Our Scout Group is hoping to hear from former members wishing to join our birthday celebrations.

2009 is the Centenary year of one of the area’s oldest Scout Groups.  The 10th Perthshire (Perth Academy) Group was formed in April 1909 by staff and pupils at Perth Academy who were enthused by Baden Powell’s book, Scouting For Boys.

The Group has survived and flourished since then. Although the links with the school are still strong – indeed the Group opened its superb new Scout Centre in the school grounds earlier this year - the members now come from a wide range of schools throughout the Perth area.

A second Beaver Colony has just opened allowing a number of boys and girls to join the group and bringing the number of youngsters aged 6 to 18 enjoying Scouting at the”10th” to over 150 every week. The Group has an enthusiastic and dedicated adult support team of over 20 who ensure the members have an incredibly varied range of activities.

This year’s celebrations include a camp in Glen Lyon for over 100 members and a party of nearly 50 recently returned from an international camp in Denmark.

One highlight of the year will be a reunion dinner for former members on Saturday 14th November when it’s hoped old friendships will be renewed and happy memories rekindled over a meal and a few drams.  The Group want as many former members as possible to attend and already has nearly 100 signed up for the event. However there is space for many more.

Group Scout Leader Chris Kirk says “We are already in touch with many former members who are keen to meet up again, but hope even more will get in touch to join the centenary celebrations.  The 14th November promises to be a great night with old friends coming from far and wide and many tales of past camps and events to be re-told, so please get in touch”.

Those wishing to book a seat or find out more about the dinner should contact Bruce Lamond on Perth 560874 or contact the Group through the "Contacts" page on this website.
