It is a policy of the Group that we will do everything possible to prevent individuals being excluded from events or activities because of financial difficulties. The Activity Support Fund (the new name for the Discretionary Fund) was set up to support that aim; to make Scouting accessible.  Find out more in the newly updated section, under "Fees & Fundraising" on the website side menu.

Revised Subscription Levels E-mail

Like any organisation, we’re faced with rising costs.  We’ve been reviewing the level of the subscription fees, and at the recent AGM we explained why an increase is inevitable.  The following is an extract from our Treasurer's report:

"After being housed rent free by Perth Academy since the demolition of the old Scout Hut the Group now has the new Scout Hall running costs to finance. There will be additional costs of rent, insurance, electricity and maintenance to be found by the Group. The Hall is ideal for many and varied uses and it is hoped that Hall letting will offset some of the additional costs.

The full running costs will be monitored over the first year of operation, but first indications are that there will be a likely deficit in Group funds unless income can be increased.

Member numbers will rise with the new Monday Beaver Colony and it is proposed that subscriptions for all sections should rise by £3 to £20 per term. The increase is purely for additional hall costs, and may not be enough to stop the Group using up some of its accumulated funds.

It should be noted that the additional amounts will be paid straight to the Group and the Sections will run on the same budgets they have now had for several years. By the time of the next AGM we will have a far better idea of the hall running costs and what future subscription levels should be"

The change was agreed at the AGM and is effective from this term.  I’m sure you’ll agree that around £2 per meeting, our subs represent great value for money.

We are hoping to hear from former members wishing to join our birthday celebrations at a reunion dinner on Saturday 14th November. It’s hoped old friendships will be renewed and happy memories rekindled over a meal and a few drams.  The Group want as many former members as possible to attend and already has nearly 100 signed up for the event.  However there is space for many more.

Group Scout Leader Chris Kirk says “We are already in touch with many former members who are keen to meet up again, but hope even more will get in touch to join the centenary celebrations.  The 14th November promises to be a great night with old friends coming from far and wide and many tales of past camps and events to be re-told, so please get in touch”.

Those wishing to book a seat or find out more about the dinner should contact Bruce Lamond on Perth 560874 or contact the Group through the "Contacts" page on this website.  Read the full press release here.
